Splurge or Save: Pointelle Takes Center Stage
Should this season's trending fabrication be on your holiday wish list?
Back in August, we explored the polka dot trend and whether it was worth the splurge. I’ve always thought that polka dots are worth the splurge because they’re a timeless choice that can elevate both casual and formal outfits. If polka dots didn’t resonate with you, I’ve discovered another rising trend for you to contemplate and if it’s worth splurging or saving for this season’s wardrobe.
The New Adult is a #KIDULT
There’s a vibrant movement dubbed "KIDULT," with consumers aged 18 and over contributing over $1.5 billion in toy sales in 2024 alone, underscoring a trend of reconnecting with youth. Often referred to as suspended adulthood, this movement embodies a longing for childlike joy amid the nail-biting stress of elections and inflation. Now, this trend is spilling into apparel, as brands embrace playful designs and nostalgia, allowing adults to express their inner child. As an apparel company, you can capitalize on this lucrative market by connecting with consumers seeking joy in their everyday lives and infusing your collections with elements that resonate with the #KIDULT spirit.
Pointelle Has Entered The Chat
This fabrication is bursting at the seams with playful aesthetics. Unfamiliar with Pointelle? It features a delicate, knitted pattern with small decorative holes, creating a light and airy texture that adds visual interest and breathability. This technique has long been favored in infants and childrenswear due to its soft, gentle nature—plus, the level of cuteness (solid or printed) is on a whole other level. Not only is it comfortable against delicate skin, but it also provides ventilation, which is especially important for active little ones. It’s time for toddlers to step aside because Pointelle is making its way into adult fashion across both women’s and men’s. This fabrication offers a fresh take on playful sophistication, allowing grown-ups to embrace comfort and style while showcasing their #KIDULT flair. There are two categories where I’m seeing this trend emerge: one may seem obvious, but the other might inspire you to rethink embracing this playful aesthetic, making it worthy of a splurge instead of just saving it for your kids' wardrobes.
Pajamas Get a Stylish Makeover
Pointelle has been a buzzword for the entire 2025 development season, especially around my office. In my office, we love incorporating this versatile fabric into our assortments because it elevates the sales floor, particularly when many silhouettes are comprised of polyester. It’s also budget-friendly, combining comfort and style, making it the ideal fabrication for the bedroom.
As “cozy season” approaches, I've rounded up the best Pointelle sleep sets, which will elevate your nighttime looks and make perfect gifts this holiday season.

Silhouettes Beyond the Sheets
It’s perfectly fine for those who prefer a vintage tee and boxer shorts as your sleepwear ensemble. You can still embrace Pointelle in other aspects of your wardrobe (or incorporate it into your 2025 merchandising assortment) as this trend translates beautifully into stylish layering pieces. While everyday cotton tees shine at opening price points, a Pointelle tank or long-sleeve tee adds a chic twist with a slightly elevated retail price. It’s also fantastic in a sweater silhouette, breaking up a sea of knitwear with rich texture and visual appeal. These additions elevate your basic wardrobe, providing a fresh approach to comfort that’s ideal for any occasion.

I don’t know about you, but I will be taking one of each, please. So are you ready to dive into the Pointelle trend, or are you holding back on that splurge? I want to hear your thoughts—share your take in the comments below.
I feel like more casual and younger brands like Brandy Melville have been doing pointelle for a long time, as it totally fits their younger and "kidult" target market. In addition, I've been seeing many influencer-started brands embrace the trend, such as Daily Drills and Shop Form!
